Expanding your practice into a new state? Let Magellan know promptly
Claims will deny without amendments to your Magellan agreement
Suppose you—or a practitioner in your group—becomes licensed in a new state or you are adding practitioners in another state. That’s positive, right?
You’re already contracted with Magellan to provide services in your primary state and perhaps other states as well.
You might wonder: Are you now automatically in network with Magellan in the new state?
The answer is no. Expanding your practice into a new state does not mean you are in network with Magellan in that state.
Your Magellan provider agreement is state-specific. If you wish to extend your contractual relationship with Magellan in a new state, you must sign and return any attestations, amendments, and/or addenda required for that state, in accordance with your Magellan agreement and the provider handbook. This is true whether you intend to provide services in person or virtually (telehealth).
Billing for services in a state outside the provisions of your current Magellan agreement will result in denied claims, so be sure to get your agreement updated.
